Depending on the reason for attending counselling, sessions can vary from one off sessions, 4-8 sessions or ongoing. This will be discussed with you at your first session once an initial assessment has taken place and your counsellor is able to make some recommendations.
What happens in the counselling session?
Counselling can take a number of forms. It involves exploring with you what your concerns are and together, we will work to achieve insight and ideas about how to tackle these worries. Counselling can be a place to express difficult emotions, develop strategies to overcome obstacles as well as uncover the cause of stress and anxiety. A variety of evidence based therapies and counselling techniques may be used including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, EMDR, narrative therapies, family therapy and solution focused therapy. All counselling sessions are conducted from a trauma informed lens and offer a safe space for clients to work through presenting issues.
Can I get a Medicare Rebate?
Our counsellors are Accredited Mental Health Social Workers which means that provided you have a referral from your GP, you are able to receive a Medicare Rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Do I need a referral?
While you don’t need a referral to access counselling, you will need a referral from your GP if you wish to claim a Medicare Rebate for sessions.
